3.27 Gears Waiting To Be Installed!

I've wanted a 5.0 Mustang since I was 16 years old, finally after an unfortunate turn of fate took my 1953 Chevy from me, I bought one. This car was purchased in October of 2001 with 128k on it (the car now has 206k). Under the hood and the interior of the car were and are immaculate. The paint looks decent but not showroom quality. Now that it's starting to recieve some modifications, I decided to dedicate a page to it's honor. I will keep this page updated with new mods and some tech write-ups. Hopefully, I will get some timeslips after the gears are installed. Thanks for looking. 5 Liter Fox Body cars are a legend!

Explorer Throttle Body Install Tips

For those that are interested in installing an Explorer Throttle Body, here are a few tips, the swap is fairly simple:

The 'bell crank' that the throttle cable hooks to will have to be taken off the old throttle body. Simply grind the mushroomed flange of each throttle body, swap the 'bell cranks' and place a small tack weld to hold it in place.

The TPS holes will have to be filed out a bit to fit the wider spread on the Explorer TB, and to ensure enough movement to achieve proper TPS voltage (.9-.99 volts).

If you wish to retain the small elbow that goes to the oil filler tube, a hole will have to be drilled in the Explorer TB. Carefully pick the drill bit size to ensure a tight fit. Use Lock-Tight or another epoxy of sorts to help hold it in place.

Finally, if the stock intake is retained, a significant amount of porting at the opening is necessary to achieve the TB's full potential. I stuffed some rags into the intake and cleaned out the metal shavings with pressurized air to ensure nothing harmful found its way into the engine.

I've found this to be a worthwhile mod that increased throttle response, and made a small, but noticable difference in power. If I had to guess, I'd say it gave me and honest 8-10hp, maybe more...

Best ET to date 14.88@94.68mph w/a 2.36 60'

I also now have a 1986 Mustang LX 5.0SSP as a project car. It's rough, but it's a good foundation!
