I can see why its called the great plains. The horizon is a long
way away. I mean really far. I mean so far that when
you see a water tower on the horizon, you can look up half an hour
later and you haven't passed it yet. Yesterday's light tailwind
slunk around during the night and became an annoying North East
wind. Other than that the day was basically a repeat of yesterday.
About 40 miles into the ride I caught up to Steve and Laura, a couple
riding Eastbound. They had started in San Francisco, riding
the Western express route until it joined the TA at Pueblo. They
actually did the same ride that I did the day before, even staying at
the same place. We agreed to meet for lunch in Tribune, and then
I rode on crossing into Kansas.
I didn't see them in Tribune so I kept going. Just a little out
of town I had a flat on the front tire. I found several thorns
sticking through it and decided that it is finally time to put that
spare on that I'd been carrying since Missoula. While fixing the
flat Steve and Laura caught up to me. We rode together for about
40 minutes but the recumbent really shows its strength when bucking a
headwind, and eventually I outdistancd them.
I was thinking about going further than Scott City, but there is a nice
hostel here so I called it good.
