Moments
- Managing media relations for the
18 members of the state senate Democratic caucus....all
at once. As the late Senator Frank Roberts said, "It's
like one ballerina with 18 choreographers!"
- Heading off alone to Alaska for
a three-week sabbatical in 1998, and hiring on as a cook
at a fishing lodge. (Free labor = free food and
lodging.)
- Landing my first big federal
grant for the Oregon University System: $350,000 from the
US Department of Commerce, in 1999.
- Helping to launch the STARS
Foundation with then First Lady Sharon Kitzhaber, and
then serving on the board for eight years. The program
now helps deliver a teen pregnancy prevention program to
almost every middle school student in Oregon.
- Giving birth to Annie and
Abigail. Finding Stu. In that order.
