FIREWISE
Last Updated: 4/9/12 Part
of what makes living in Skamania and Klickitat County so great is our close connection
to forests. We live, work, fish, hunt
and recreate throughout the beautiful forests that surround our
communities. While we can certainly
enjoy and appreciate our forests, it is also important for us to recognize
that wildfire is a natural part of most forest ecosystems. Being prepared for
wildfire is an important part of living in this region. Thats what being Firewise is all
about. Here at Underwood Conservation District,
we have developed a set of programs to provide assistance to those of you
that are challenged by the task of preparing your home and property for the
eventuality of wildfire. Our Firewise
program involves: ·

Community Outreach CONTRACTORS: RFQQ for the 2012 Early Season Mobile Chipper Program UCD has secured funding for a mobile chipper service,
similar to that operated in 2011, but offered on a first-come, first-served
basis in a limited program area in Skamania County, Washington. This program
will be run in May and June 2012 but there is a significant possibility for
additional funding and a considerably extended program. We highly recommend
interested contractors read the RFQQ, direct questions to Dan Richardson
(email: danrichardson@gorge.net), and submit a Statement of Qualifications and
Quotations. The deadline
for submitting your Statement of Qualifications and Quotations is Monday,
April 16, 2012, by 4:00 p.m. (Residents interested
in participating in a mobile chipper service may also direct questions to
this email: danrichardson@gorge.net.) FREE Wildfire Hazard Home Hazard Assessment Have you ever
wondered what would happen if a wildfire were to come through your
neighborhood? Did you know that it is
the materials that your home is constructed of as well as the area immediately surrounding your home that
actually determines whether or not your home will survive a wildfire? If you are concerned about the hazards of wildfire
on your property, please consider contacting us to schedule a FREE Wildfire
Hazard Home Assessment. This
assessment is a personalized, one-on-one home visit to rate the wildfire
hazard risk of your house and your property. Our trained staff will discuss
with you a variety of things that you can do to reduce your wildfire
hazards. This is a free service for
any landowner in Skamania or western Klickitat County and an excellent way to
begin or continue readying your lot for a wildfire. To request a Wildfire
Hazard Home Assessment contact: Jamie
