1971 BSA A-65 Thunderbolt
In 1971 when I was looking for a
new bike, I really thought this
was a beautiful bike. The
British Bike People did not like
these as they
were a break from
traditional styling. Especially
the grey frame) I opted for the
Honda CB750 instead (The right
Choice) I ran across
this one
and did a complete restoration
on it, including returning the
frame color back to the proper
dove grey. Its really not as
grey
as in the picture, it looks
more like Ivory in person.
1959 Ariel Square Four
This is a pretty good original Ariel
Square Four in extremely complete
condition. It has been sitting
since the mid 1960's. I completely
restored
it over the winter of
2003/2004, to near "Councours".
Took it down to the AMCA Road Run at
Borrego Springs California in
February to break
it in. On the
right is the before picture. It was
really much worse in person than the
picture shows. Below are the after
pictures.
John's "English" Bikes
1954 AJS Model 18S
Immediately after selling the Model 18CS above I missed it. When I had the chance to buy this bike at a swap meet it was in
sad shape, but I snapped it up anyway. It had all the wrong sheet metal on it, but another person at the swap meet
said he had all the right parts at home, and brought them the next day. Completed November 2008. The road model is really
more to my taste than the competition 18CS anyway.
1954 AJS 18CS
I was at the Oregon Vintage
Swap Meet in Corvallis Oregon
in 2002, and found this
"Basket Case" bike. It was
pretty much apart, but
unbelievably
it was almost all there in 4 milk
crates and a couple of
cardboard boxes. Its a very
nice bike to ride. Handles
very well, and tracks
like
its on a rail. Sold this to a friend in California. Missed it immediately, so bought the one below in early 2008.
1955 BSA B31, 350cc
1947 AJS Model 18
This was purchased pretty much as a
rusty hulk. I dont have a dirt bike,
and built this as a bike to go up and ride forest service roads,
and to ride Titus Canyon at Death Valley. Succesfully Rode Titus Canyon, then sold it to a friend that I promised it to.
Since selling it it has been improved with nicer fenders, and lights to make it street legal.
