In 1973 and 1974 my Uncle provided me an opportunity to live in West Germany for 18 months.  While there, I did some travel around the country and once in a while I would actually take some photos of trains and streetcars.  I found that travel without a car was pretty easy in Germany.  I was stationed in a small village south of Wurzburg and I had a bicycle that I used to explore the surrounding countryside.  That's where I found the steam engines still in service.  Unfortunately, my Uncle liked to keep my time occupied as much as possible, so I didn't get off the base as much as I would have liked.  So this is it.
