If you are concerned about the noise level of your quad, or it's still on warranty these mods might not be a good idea. |
A craze for power is all it takes........and $4!! |
Items you'll need: 17mm, 8mm, 6mm sockets and both phillips/flat drivers #152 Drill, welder, and hack saw or cut-off tool |
Start by taking your exhaust end cap off, then grind and drill the three welds that hold the spark arrestor in place. Once the arrestor is removed, note where the small diameter insert is welded in, and where the end housing begins to taper. At the widest point of the taper take a hack saw or cut-off tool and make a circular cut to remove the small diameter pipe. File any burs off and slide the spark arrestor back in place and weld it. Put the end cap back on and remove your seat. |
Remove the airbox lid and choose where you would like to drill some holes. More holes is more fuel and power, or you could save the airbox lid and remove it entirely and purchase an outerwear for the filter. Then proceed to take the air filter out and remove all the steel webbing that is wrapped around the steel core center. Before putting the air filter back in make sure it's clean and well oiled . |
Shut off your fuel and drain the float bowl. On the bottom of the carb there is a 17mm plug, remove it, and get your 6mm socket and remove the main jet. I found that a #152 main jet works the best at 0-2000ft. For improved throttle response and low end power, use a #40 pilot jet, or lower the clip on the needle one notch. Reassemble and you're ready to rip. |
