United Methodist Church of Goldendale:

The Goldendale United Methodist Church was founded in 1869 by Rev. J.W. Turner, a circuit rider from the Walla Walla District of the Oregon Annual Conference. The first church was built in 1872 near the Klickitat Creek on lots donated by John Golden. However that location proved not to be desirable, and a new building was constructed on the present location in 1875.

In May of 1888, a disasterous fire destroyed the church. It was rebuilt in 1889 and served the community till Sunday, October 25, 1942, when another fire destoyed the church again. The congregation continued to meet in the old JC Penney store until the new church was built and began services in March of 1946. The eduaction wing was added in 1960.

Through flood, fire, war, and economic downtimes, the Goldendale United Methodist Church continued to serve the needs of the community and world because of the congregation's commitment to Jesus Christ and His call to love and serve our neighbors.
